Patient Safety
In the last few
years, infection control and asepsis have become an issue of public
concern. With the discovery of AIDS (HIV) Virus and the continuing problem
with the Hepatitus-B Virus, it has become necessary for health care facilities
to constantly upgrade the techniques of sterilization and disinfection products
to provide you with maximum protection.
In our office, your safety is our
highest priority. Throughout the day, we perform a number of sterilization
procedures for your protection. Examples of these include:
- All treatment surfaces, i.e. countertops, chair surfaces, lights, X-ray
machines, trays, etc. are disinfected with the most effective and safest
products available before and after each patient appointment.
- To insure your safety, we follow a number of standard sterilization
procedures with all instruments. First, all instruments are brought back
to our lab and placed in an ultrasonic cleaner. Then the instruments are
rinsed thoroughly before being sterilized in a dry heat autoclave, which runs
for 30 minutes and reaches temperatures of 400 to 425 degrees, or in an
electronically controlled autoclave, which uses a high temperature and
pressure to bacteria or viruses. All handpieces are sterilized in a
state-of-the-are autoclave.
- Our autoclave an dry heat sterilizer are monitored daily and weekly to
ensure their effectiveness and safety.
- Staff members use masks, safety glasses and new gloves for each
patient
- All staff members are trained in proper infection control and asepsis and
have been vaccinated against the Hepatitis-B virus
As always, we will do everything possible to provide you with the highest
quality care while maximizing your protection. We want you to be well
informed regarding procedures performed in our office an welcome any questions
you may have. If you would be interested, we will be happy to answer any
questions that you may have and give you a tour of our
facility.
